Some color:

Early in today's games, Jere Mead held AEINNNR and played through a
disconnected U and C. Can you see his great play?*

Division C's Nick Amphlett started off today facing Kevin Colosa. He
was nervous but managed an 11-point win despite three bingos by Kevin:
OUTLINES through the I, RETAPING through the A, and MATUREs. Nick got
down DIALERs and a few well-placed high point tile plays like EXONs
through the O to the triple for 60 and FEZ for 33.

The room's younger players fared well in round 9: In addition to Nick
Amphlett, John & William Ezekowitz, Aaron Bader, Jeff Walden, and
Bennett Schlesinger won, too.

I caught a great event-winning board between Joel Horn and Joey Mallick
in round 12. Joel played DILUTEd and ANALYSER and Joey got down
INFLAMED, SCRIBeD (which hooked ANALYSER) for 77 (Joel challenged
thinking the plural could only have a Z), INSOLES for 86, THEREOF for
86, and ERUPTION. These last three were a bingo-bango-bongo. Joey's big
654-299 win.

Today featured the most beautiful day thus far this fall and players
made clear that they wanted to be OUT IN THE SUNSHINE by the numbers
that fled pre-awards ceremony (which was even early this year!).
Several prizes were collected by friends and many were left with me. I
don't mail anything but prize money, so prizes left behind will be
recycled into the next event's prize fund. :)

It was wonderful to have so many new, strong players at this event. And
it is worth noting that previously unrated players fought it out in the
last game for first place in D with 10-1 records! Five players were
clumped at the top of C with 8-3 records going in round 12 and four
players held 8-3 records going into B's last round. Division A had one
9-2 player and two 8-3 players who were vying for first place in round
12, so excitement was palpable in every division.

Thanks to Gregg Foster, Dave Mallick, Craig Rowland, Terry Karpel, and
David Lovler!

exhaustedly yours,
sherrie
saint@p...

*Jere played UNCANNIER through the U and C.
